The Yearn for Fragrant Soils
2023
UV Print on Perspex, Mirrored Perspex, Metal Shelving
60 x 60 x 1.5 cm

The Yearn for Fragrant Soils confronts the raw emotional responses and interconnectedness one feels when encountering internally sacred regions; lands that reawaken an altered perception of the core existence of being. From the artists’ complex association of being both distant and close to the area of Chiang Dao, Thailand, shaped by transformative personal connections, the artwork seeks to disconnect from reality and internal conflict to evoke pause for reflection. Stemming from the artist’s ongoing exploration of societal propriety, Sasi Organ sought interpretation through researching Byung Chul Han's philosophical ideology on achievement society and the extinction of rituals in cultures, informing this work and her ongoing practice. The Yearn for Fragrant Soils invites viewers to interact and observe thoughts within proximity of the work and its environment, stepping into the endless abyss of an empty void, the self, or introspection. The work insists on a newly perceived avenue with which one can dissect the intangibility of existing or find peace within. A continuum of dimensional refractions materialised in the layering of perspex, The Yearn for Fragrant Soils prompts contemplation deep within the chasm of purely existing.
